Praying and Preying Mantis
America has long been called a melting pot. People came from all over the world, and the combined cultures merged the best of the best in a stew of all the ingredients. At least that’s what I was told in public school. What was never really talked about, or maybe it wasn’t understood, was the side dish of wildlife mish-mash we also created along the way, in some of the most unexpected places.

For example, there are now three different species of Mantids (or praying mantises) in Ohio. One is native to North America, one is from Europe, and another is from Asia. Actually, a mix of three doesn’t sound uncommon for an American family today.
